Rufous Is As Affectionate As He Looks

Having somebody in your life, requires major adjustments. My whole schedule had to change & I had to keep to regular hours in order for Rufous to feed & then do his business thereafter. It’s been 8 years since I had a pet. Here’s what I learnt of Rufous being the monster of a puppy that he is:-

1) He likes to feed off my hand, doesn’t like cameras but doesn’t mind camera phones. (Hence, the picture quality….)
2) He drinks off a syringe & now the feeder bottle.

3) He has his rugs but prefers to sleep on mine. Choffster is his’ now.
4) He likes girls.
5) He makes whiny noises when he wants to do his business. (My cue to grab newspapers & stumble across the room to get to him….)

6) When he accidentally slammed the bathroom door & locked himself in, he ripped everything apart; his leash, his rug, the toilet piping system & the door………then he gets upset with me when I free him upon coming home, refusing to talk to me or face me when he lies down. This went on for a day. :(

7) He likes to force himself onto the front seat while I’m driving, and plonk his butt onto my lap with a paw on the steering wheel causing me to pullover & put on the emergency lights. He seems to be glad to get the attention from passers-by & angry motorists.

8) The next time he did that, he rested his head on my lap instead while sitting on the passenger side. My arm can only take so much of brute force & he is a brute.

9) He likes the vet & is very cooperative when they clean & redress his wound. I got nauseas from the smell in the hospital.
10) He sleeps when I sleep. I get to practice my first aid skills on him everyday when he tries to sleep. :D

When he was at the vet, they said he was big but then said later that he would get bigger……so I thought of all the stuff I have to get for a big dog to exist in my place. He needs a big collar, big leash, big bowl, big drinking bottle, big bag of food, big rugs, well, almost everything big. I need a big salary for my big heart to accommodate this big pooch. He is soooooooo affectionate that it’s unbelievable that he’s a stray before I found him.

The pictures show you his size somewhat. His funnel collar shows that he’s living with it & getting used to it as he ‘cleans’ it himself after meals. I don’t know how I will manage but I hope these challenges are only temporary. Walking him today was a great task as I have to lift him with a leash on his harness to alleviate his torso so that he doesn’t have to use his leg too much. I ended up with muscle aches. I need to build biceps again…..

The upside is, I got a courier package from DiGi yesterday, giving me a treat at the spa & high tea worth RM320 in total for being their loyal customer so this is a blessing! Thank you, Lord!

I’ve Finally Found Someone….

Life is so full of unexpected situations, just when you think you are in the calm of things, something comes upon you & you begin to wonder if you are still on top. So much has happened in the short span of time that I can’t put the rest of my Khmer journey just yet. I will put them in a separate section which I will create specifically for it. Are you ready for what I’m going to tell you???

I HAVE A NEW MALE IN MY LIFE. His name is Miracle Rufus & the manner in which we met was the most unromantic, I would say, even traumatic. No flowers, no romantic wine & dine dates, no holding hands. When I met him, he was on the highway. Hurt. I stood in the middle of the federal highway to prevent cars from hitting him again. All three lanes traffic was halted in my attempt after seeing him yelling in pain. He was fighting for his life. I could see his leg was broken. My heart couldn’t be more torn to see somebody in excruciating pain. A taxi driver & two other motorcyclist stopped to help me pick him up to the side. We took him to the hospital. The doctors had to put a steel rod into his bone marrow to rejoin the fracture. There was no way of knowing his family members because he didn’t have any identity on him. I would visit him daily but he was just grumpy. I thought this friendship was going to be very difficult. He couldn’t talk to me & he definitely couldn’t tell me where he’s from. After the surgery, doctors said I could take him home to recover. And so I did. They told me that he’s a big boy but he’s still growing……….he’s only 6 – 8 months old. Rufus is still a puppy. And so I’ve found myself a best friend & I’m living with this male in my life.

What surprised me further is the number of well-wishers & good samaritans who have come forth to offer me the much needed help. Thank you so much. My colleague teased me that when I prayed for a companion, I forgot to tell God what shape or size he should come in. Hahaha! Very funny but I’m not minding at all. Took him a day or two to get used to me. He eats out of my hand & drinks from a syringe due to the funnelled collar he’s got on to prevent him from licking his wound. I was very apprehensive about him as he was huge & had a perpetual frown on his forehead. I guess all orthopaedic surgeries are very painful. I had to talk to him constantly & let him gain trust before I started to touch him but now he wags his tail when he sees me. Of course, as this is a huge undertaking, friends told me to weigh all the consequences of keeping a pet with my travel schedule but what was I to do? Dump him? If he was a cheating boyfriend, yeah! In a second!

Sigh, my response to them is, you gotta look at Rufus & melt. When you melt, anything & everything is possible. In emotions, there is no logic, and in logic, there’s no emotion. Now that I can have all the romantic dinners for two & hold hands whenever I want, I am not going to be logical now so please just let me fall in love this once…….
